Breakfast at the Beach
My Sister and her Husband gave me a devotion book for my 50th birthday. It is called, Devotions for the beach....and the days you wish you were there. It is a book by Hallmark and looks very inviting for my busy life. As I sat down this morning with a cup of coffe, I was pleasantly surprised at the first devotion.
Today's devotion was called, "Breakfast on the Beach" and I loved it. The bible reference was John 21:12, and it was a verse that I have never really paid too much attention to in the past. "Jesus said to them, "come and eat breakfast". Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, "who are you?" They knew it was the Lord." According to the book, this was Jesus' third post resurrection appearance. Apparently I need to study the bible more because I do not remember this appearance at all. It was a wonderful story and miracle that would be wonderful to have experienced. Jesus providing an abundance of fish and then requesting that the fisherman come join him on the beach.
I know that I allow too much busyness in my life; work, home, planning social get togethers, this and that. When things do not go as planned or I feel myself getting run down, it is easy for me to then go to the Lord and say to him, "okay, it is time for me to bring you into my life again". It occurred to me today that all Jesus wants to do for us is be present in our lives and he only asks that we be present with Him. Not when things are not going our way but everyday in every little mundane task...like fishing.
My New Years Resolution this year is to work really hard at "being present with Him." Daily, weekly and monthly, spending time listening to what he has in store for my next 50 years.
